ROI DU LAC LAUNCHES THE PUTINOIKA COLLECTION
OCTOBER 30, 7:00 – 8:30 PM
ABOVE CHINATOWN VINTAGE BOUTIQUE: 75 EAST BROADWAY #201, NYC
- A Celebration of Poetry, Dance, and Design
- Free and open to the public
- Special Performance by Shoko Tamai of the Ninja Ballet
The collaboration between writer Giannina Braschi and designer Roi Du Lac will debut at Above Chinatown, on October 30 at 7 p.m. Join us for a celebration of poetry, dance, and design honoring the release of Giannina Braschi’s magnum opus, Putinoika. The contemporary design collective Roi du Lac will transform a vintage boutique in Chinatown into a whimsical pop-up installation, unveiling the Putinoika Collection, featuring blouses, scarves, and trays based on Braschi’s characters: the Muses of Bacchus, Putin’s Putinas, and the Rites of the Dancing Maenads in a mystical and magical space. There will also be a live performance by choreographer Shoko Tamai, founder of the Ninja Ballet.
Giannina Braschi’s iconic writings have long inspired poets, artists, writers, designers, composers, cartoonists, photographers, and theorists across diverse disciplines, genres, and countries. Roi du Lac’s Putinoika Collection marks the first haute couture application of Braschi’s radical texts and the first adaptation of her new work, Putinoika.
Putinoika is a modern Bacchae set in the age of Putin and Trump. Inspired by ancient Greek tragedies, Putinoika unfolds in three parts: Palinode, Bacchantes, and Putinoika. In a world steeped in collusion, delusion, and pollution, hope not only stands firm in Putinoika, but also lifts us to higher realms with new and exciting literary forms, poetic expressions, and a deep faith in creativity. Putinoika asserts that poets, philosophers, and lovers possess the power to create on a scale that surpasses society’s destructive capacity. If Waiting for Godot is an elegy of hope in the atomic age, Putinoika is the “Invictus” we awaited after the global pandemic. Putinoika is available through FlowerSong Press, Amazon, or any online publication platform. Published by FlowerSong press, directed by poet-publisher Edward Vidaurre and edited by Frederick Luis Aldama.
